About the game
Cryptid is a competitive deduction game for three to five players who each hold a unique piece of evidence about the location of an elusive creature. On your turn you can question other players to gain information, but revealing too much lets them beat you to the discovery first. A modular board and a deck of hundreds of possible clue set-ups keep every game fresh. The tension between sharing just enough and giving too much away makes for a distinctly logical puzzle experience.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli finds Cryptid's give-and-take deduction genuinely clever and different from typical cooperative deduction games - it's competitive, precise, and rewards careful logical questioning. The huge number of possible set-ups from the included clue books keeps it feeling new session after session.
What we like
- Unique competitive deduction mechanism.
- Modular board with huge replayability.
- Quick fifty-minute playtime.
- Satisfying logical puzzle-solving.
Keep in mind
- Requires exactly three to five players.
- Can feel unforgiving after an early logical misstep.
- Abstract presentation offers less thematic engagement.
