About the game
CuBirds is a light, colorful hand-management card game about herding mixed-up birds back onto their proper fences. On your turn, you play matching birds from your hand onto one end of a fence, gathering any identical birds already there into your hand, while other birds in between fly away to your hand as well. Once you've gathered enough of a single species, you can "flock" them into your scoring area, aiming for either seven distinct species or two species with at least three birds each. The round ends abruptly the moment any player empties their hand, so timing your flocks is crucial. It's a fast, tactile set-collection game for 2-5 players.
Hobbli's Notes
We like CuBirds for how much tension it squeezes out of such a simple hand-management loop: timing when to flock versus when to keep drawing is a real puzzle. Its quick round length and colorful bird art make it an easy, cheerful crowd-pleaser. It's light enough for family game night but has enough push-your-luck tension to keep gamers engaged too. The abrupt round-ending can occasionally feel harsh if you're caught with a full hand.
What we like
- Simple rules with a surprisingly tense set-collection puzzle.
- Colorful, charming bird theme and art.
- Quick round length keeps games moving.
- Scales well across a range of player counts.
Keep in mind
- Abrupt round-ending can feel punishing if caught with a full hand.
- Limited long-term strategic depth for serious gamers.
- Some luck of the draw in which birds you're dealt.
Who it's for
Great for families and casual gamers aged 8+ looking for a light, quick set-collection card game, playable in groups of 2-5.
