About the game

The Game: Face to Face takes the cooperative card-sorting puzzle of The Game and turns it into a head-to-head duel for two players. On your turn you play at least two cards from your hand onto ascending or descending piles, and once per turn you may sneakily play a card onto your opponent's pile, breaking the normal rules to help push it away from its limit. You want to empty your hand first, but doing so inevitably requires giving your rival an assist along the way. It's a quick, tense mind game about how much you're willing to help the person you're racing against.

Hobbli's Notes

The genius of this design is turning a cooperative classic into a competitive one just by adding a single 'attack' play per turn. It's a fantastic quick two-player filler with real psychological tension.

What we like

  • Clever twist turns a cooperative classic into a competitive duel.
  • Fast setup and short playtime around 20 minutes.
  • Easy to teach even to non-gamers.
  • Creates genuine tension between helping yourself and helping your opponent.

Keep in mind

  • Limited to two players only.
