About the game
Kitchen Rush turns cooperative worker placement into a sweat-inducing race against the clock. Instead of taking turns, all players place hourglass "workers" simultaneously in real time, buying groceries, prepping dishes, and serving hungry customers before the sand runs out. Four frantic four-minute rounds simulate a dinner service where every second and every decision counts. It supports 1-4 players and scales smoothly down to a tense solo challenge. The real-time pressure makes it feel unlike almost any other worker-placement game.
Hobbli's Notes
We're big fans of how Kitchen Rush makes worker placement feel urgent instead of contemplative: there's no analysis paralysis when the sand is already falling. Its low downtime (everyone acts at once) is a huge plus for restless groups. It plays great solo too, since the clock doesn't care how many people are at the table. The chaos can occasionally tip into pure panic rather than strategy for newer players.
What we like
- Real-time simultaneous play virtually eliminates downtime.
- Genuinely tense and exciting for a cooperative game.
- Works great solo as well as with a full group.
- Short, punchy four-round structure keeps energy high.
Keep in mind
- The real-time chaos can overwhelm players prone to analysis paralysis.
- Physical dexterity and quick-thinking under pressure isn't for everyone.
- Limited long-term strategic depth compared to turn-based worker placement.
Who it's for
Great for families and casual groups aged 10+ who enjoy fast, physical, real-time challenges, and it holds up well solo too.
