About the game
Century: Spice Road casts players as caravan leaders trading spices along the ancient silk road for fame and glory. Each turn you either establish a trade route, make a trade, fulfill a demand card, or rest to recycle your played cards, building an efficient engine along the way. The game ends once a player claims their fifth victory point card, with the highest score winning. Designed by Emerson Matsuuchi, its clean deck-building system and gorgeous gemstone-like components make it an easy game to teach. It plays in about 45 minutes for 2 to 5 players.
Hobbli's Notes
An elegant gateway into deck-building and engine mechanics. It's simple to explain but rewards efficient planning, making it a reliable pick when introducing newer gamers to something a bit deeper.
What we like
- Elegant, simple rules that still offer real strategic depth.
- Fast 45-minute playtime with very low downtime.
- Beautiful, tactile gemstone-style components.
- An excellent gateway game for teaching engine-building concepts.
Keep in mind
- Limited direct interaction between players.
- Can feel repetitive after many plays.
- Thin theme mostly exists as flavor on top of the mechanics.
Who it's for
Families and newer gamers looking for a light engine-building game, ages 8 and up, in groups of 2-5.
