About the game

In Imhotep, players compete to become Egypt's greatest builder by loading stone blocks onto boats and delivering them to five iconic monuments. Each turn offers a simple choice, procure stones, load a boat, sail a boat to a monument, or play an action card, but timing and cunning are everything, since opponents will constantly disrupt your plans. Each monument scores differently, rewarding different strategies from quantity to order of arrival. It's an elegant, fast-playing game of area majority and set collection with an accessible learning curve.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's team appreciates Imhotep's tight, clever design that packs meaningful decisions into a short 40-minute playtime. The competing scoring conditions across the five monuments keep the game fresh, since no single strategy dominates every game. It's an excellent gateway to worker-placement-adjacent Euro games without heavy rules overhead. A Spiel des Jahres nominee, it strikes a great balance between family accessibility and genuine strategic depth.

  • Attractive components and accessible theme appeal to families.

Keep in mind

  • Player interaction can feel indirect for those wanting more confrontation.
