About the game
Star Realms: Colony Wars is a fast, sci-fi deckbuilding duel where you battle to reduce your opponent's Authority to zero. Starting with a basic fleet of ten ships, you'll spend Trade to acquire more powerful ships and bases from a shared trade row. Combat damage from your cards can be aimed directly at your rival or used to destroy their bases first. It works as a standalone two-player game or combines with the base Star Realms set for four-player battles. Games move quickly, making it easy to squeeze in several matches in one sitting.
Hobbli's Notes
Colony Wars delivers everything that made the original Star Realms a hit: tight, aggressive deckbuilding duels that rarely overstay their welcome. The ability to combine it with the base set for four-player games adds nice long-term value. Veterans of the original might not find a huge amount new here, but as a standalone entry point it's excellent. A great pick for quick, punchy card game duels.
What we like
- Fast-paced deckbuilding duel with meaningful faction synergies.
- Quick twenty-minute playtime encourages repeat matches.
- Compact, portable card-only format great for travel.
- Combines with base Star Realms for four-player games.
Keep in mind
- Primarily built for two players unless combined with the base set.
- May feel familiar to veterans of the original Star Realms.
- Direct attacks can create early snowballing for one player.
Who it's for
Great for two players aged 12+ who enjoy fast, competitive deckbuilding duels, and easy to bring along while traveling.
