About the game
Raptor is a tense two-player asymmetric game pitting a team of scientists against Mamma Raptor and her babies, set in a park where the raptors have escaped their enclosure. Players use hand-management and card comparison to determine turn order and action strength, with the scientists using firepower and reinforcements while the raptor hides, roars, and calls her young to safety. Every round involves careful bluffing about which cards to commit, since the lowest card grants the action while the difference in values fuels the opponent's movement or attacks. Designed by Bruno Cathala and Bruno Faidutti, it's a quick, thematic head-to-head duel.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team enjoys Raptor for its clever double-guessing card mechanic, where both timing and card strength matter in every exchange. The asymmetric roles, hunting scientists versus a protective mother raptor, give each side a genuinely different playstyle and strategy. Its short 30-minute playtime makes it easy to play multiple rounds and swap roles. It's a great pick for two-player game nights wanting tension without a long commitment.
What we like
- Clever asymmetric roles offer very different play experiences each side.
- Card-comparison mechanic creates constant bluffing and tension.
- Quick 30-minute playtime is ideal for repeated matches.
- Attractive, thematic artwork brings the dinosaur park to life.
Keep in mind
- Strictly a two-player game with no scaling for larger groups.
- Asymmetric balance may favor one side depending on player skill.
- Limited variability once both sides are well understood.
Who it's for
Great for two players aged 9+ who enjoy quick, tense asymmetric duels with bluffing and tactical card play.
