About the game

The Red Dragon Inn 5: The Character Trove is a standalone entry in the long-running Red Dragon Inn series, where 2-4 adventurers who've just returned from the dungeon spend their earnings drinking, gambling, and roughhousing at the tavern. Each character has a unique deck of abilities, and players must juggle their gold, drink count, and fortitude to avoid passing out or going broke before their friends. It introduces new characters like Sera the Fleetfooted and Zakhan the Drunken Master, each with their own comedic strengths and flaws. Since all Red Dragon Inn sets and Allies expansions are compatible, this box also doubles as a massive storage solution for the whole collection. The last adventurer left standing with gold in hand wins the night.

Hobbli's Notes

The Red Dragon Inn series has always nailed comedic, thematic card-game tension, and Character Trove adds fun new personalities while solving the series' biggest practical problem: storage. Sera's aggressive card-stealing and Zakhan's unpredictable drunken fighting keep the new characters distinct and fun. It's best enjoyed by groups already invested in the RDI ecosystem, since newcomers may want to start with a base set instead.

What we like

  • Adds four distinctly themed new characters with unique decks.
  • Mixes seamlessly with all previous Red Dragon Inn sets and Allies.
  • Doubles as a comprehensive storage solution for the whole collection.
  • Lighthearted, comedic theme keeps tables laughing.

Keep in mind

  • Best experienced with prior familiarity with the Red Dragon Inn series.
  • Player elimination can leave early-out players waiting.
  • Card-based combat and gambling may feel repetitive over many sessions.

Who it's for

Great for casual and humor-loving gamers ages 13+ who enjoy tavern-brawl theme card games, in groups of 2-4 (or more with other sets).
