About the game
Steampunk Rally is a dice-drafting racing game where players build fantastical steampunk contraptions using parts drafted from historical inventors like Tesla and Curie. Machines are powered by dice representing steam, heat, and electricity as players race through the Swiss Alps. Damage from terrain forces constant redesign of your invention. Supports up to eight players in a chaotic engine-building race.
Hobbli's Notes
A clever mashup of engine-building and racing that rewards creative synergy-hunting between drafted parts. The dice-placement system feels fresh, though the damage/repair loop can punish unlucky rolls. A great pick for groups who like tinkering with their own custom machine each game.
What we like
- Unique dice-placement mechanism for powering machines.
- Rewarding synergy-building between drafted parts.
- Supports up to eight players.
- Thematic steampunk chrome is baked into the mechanics.
Keep in mind
- Dice luck can undercut careful planning.
- Drafting phase can slow down with more players.
- Damage/attrition can feel punishing when things go wrong.
