About the game

In Money!, players trade and bid on currency cards drawn from a deck spanning seven currencies worth 20 to 60, plus coins worth 10, aiming to end the game with the highest total value. Each round, players simultaneously reveal bids from their hand, and the highest bidder claims a set of four cards from either side of the deck or from another player's previous bid. Scoring rewards large holdings of a single currency, with bonus points for collecting complete sets of the same value, so knowing when to hoard and when to diversify is key. It's a lean, elegant Reiner Knizia design built entirely around simultaneous bidding and set collection.

Hobbli's Notes

Money! is a great example of Knizia's gift for turning a small, simple bidding structure into a game full of tension and second-guessing. The simultaneous reveal keeps everyone locked in even when it's not technically their turn, and the scoring curve makes every currency choice matter. A quick, satisfying pick for groups who enjoy sharp, economical design.

What we like

  • Clever simultaneous bidding mechanic keeps everyone engaged.
  • Quick to teach and quick to play.
  • Elegant Knizia design with meaningful decisions each round.
  • Short playtime makes it easy to fit into any game night.

Keep in mind

  • Reliant somewhat on the luck of currency draws.
  • Player interaction is limited mostly to bidding.
  • Thin theme beyond the currency-trading premise.
