About the game

Maquis is a solitaire worker-placement game set in Nazi-occupied France, where you lead a resistance cell fighting to sabotage trains, publish underground newspapers, and complete other objectives. Each round you place your agents around town to pursue your goals while Milice collaborators and Wehrmacht patrols threaten to catch anyone who doesn't make it back to the safe house in time. With variable goals and around twenty minutes of play, Maquis packs meaningful tension into a small, quick package. It's designed purely for solo play.

Hobbli's Notes

Maquis is a lean, tense little solo game that manages real thematic weight in just twenty minutes. Hobbli's team appreciates how its print-and-play roots keep it accessible while still delivering a genuinely tough puzzle of risk management. It's an easy recommendation for solo gamers looking for a quick, story-rich worker-placement challenge, though our team has less direct experience with this niche title than with more widely-played games.

What we like

  • Tight, tense solo puzzle playable in about twenty minutes.
  • Variable goals keep repeated plays fresh.
  • Strong historical theme reinforced by mechanics.
  • Simple rules hide meaningful risk-management decisions.

Keep in mind

  • Designed exclusively for solo play, with no multiplayer option.
  • Limited component variety may reduce very long-term replay.
  • Print-and-play presentation may feel minimal to some collectors.

Who it's for
