About the game
A Fake Artist Goes to New York is a party game for 5-10 players built around a simple hidden-role drawing challenge. A Question Master sets a secret category and word, handing out cards to everyone except one player, the Fake Artist, who receives only an 'X'. Players take turns drawing a single stroke each, twice around the table, before voting on who they think the impostor is. If the Fake Artist survives and can't guess the word, they and the Question Master score points instead. It's a fast, funny deduction game wrapped in collaborative doodling.
Hobbli's Notes
This Oink Games classic is deceptively simple and endlessly entertaining: watching a drawing slowly reveal itself, stroke by stroke, is half the fun. The hidden-role tension keeps everyone paying close attention even when it's not their turn. A reliable party pick for groups of five or more.
What we like
- Simple rules paired with clever hidden-role deduction.
- Quick, charming collaborative drawing gameplay.
- Scales nicely for larger party groups.
- Minimal components make it easy to bring along.
Keep in mind
- Needs a reasonably large group to work at its best.
- Non-artists may feel self-conscious about drawing.
- Repeated plays with the same group can reduce surprise.
Who it's for
Party groups aged 8 and up looking for a quick, silly deduction and drawing game, best with 6 or more players.
