About the game
Agricola: All Creatures Big and Small is a tight two-player spinoff of Uwe Rosenberg's Agricola, focused purely on breeding horses, cows, sheep, and pigs. Starting with a small 3x2 farm, players expand their pastures and choose from sixteen possible actions, taking three actions each across eight rounds. Building fences, acquiring diverse animals, and constructing special buildings all feed into your final victory point total. It's a fast, focused worker-placement duel that packs a lot of tension into just 30 minutes.
Hobbli's Notes
This is one of our favorite quick two-player worker-placement games: Rosenberg trims Agricola down to its animal-husbandry core and the result is tense, tight, and replayable in half the time of the original. A great date-night pick for couples who enjoy strategy games.
What we like
- Tight, focused two-player worker-placement puzzle.
- Quick 30-minute playtime for the strategic depth offered.
- Charming animal husbandry theme with satisfying farm growth.
- High replayability thanks to modular buildings and expandable boards.
Keep in mind
- Tense competition for limited actions can frustrate newer players.
- First-player advantage can matter in close games.
- Fence and building requirements can feel a bit abstract.
Who it's for
Great for ages 10+ couples or pairs who enjoy tight, competitive worker-placement games, strictly for 2 players.
