About the game
Pueblo is an abstract strategy building game for 2-4 players themed around Native American pueblos of the Southwest, where players stack colored building blocks to construct a village for the Chieftain. Players must avoid letting the Chieftain spot their own trademark blocks as he moves around the board's perimeter, since visible blocks score against you, making concealment as important as construction. The player who accumulates the fewest points becomes the winning Master Builder.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team enjoys Pueblo's clever inverted scoring, where you're actually trying to hide your own contributions from view, creating an unusual and thoughtful spatial puzzle. The line-of-sight mechanic keeps players carefully tracking angles and stacking order throughout. It's an elegant abstract game that rewards spatial reasoning without heavy rules overhead.
What we like
- Clever inverted scoring twist on typical building games.
- Line-of-sight mechanic creates genuine spatial puzzles.
- Elegant, easy-to-learn abstract ruleset.
- Attractive Native American Southwest theme and components.
Keep in mind
- Abstract theme may feel dry for narrative-focused players.
- Limited player interaction beyond block placement and Chieftain movement.
Who it's for
Good for abstract-strategy fans (ages 10+) in groups of 2-4 who enjoy spatial reasoning puzzles.
