About the game

Torres is an abstract strategy game of castle-building and knight positioning, where players use limited action cards to construct towers and move their knights to maximize their standing at each scoring round. Efficient use of your action points and cards, combined with anticipating future scoring opportunities, is essential to winning. Part of the celebrated Mask Trilogy alongside Mexica and Java, Torres rewards tight tactical planning over long-term strategy. It's a lean, elegant design that has stood the test of time since its release.

Hobbli's Notes

Torres won the Spiel des Jahres in 2000 and remains a sharp, elegant example of tactical abstract design. Hobbli's team admires how much depth Kramer and Kiesling squeeze out of simple castle-building and knight movement: every scoring round forces you to reassess your position. It's a great choice for players who enjoy tight, cerebral abstract games without a heavy rules overhead.

What we like

  • Award-winning, elegant abstract design.
  • Tight action-point economy rewards careful planning.
  • Quick to teach, deep to master.
  • Strong player interaction through positioning and blocking.

Keep in mind

  • Abstract theme offers little narrative flavor.
  • Scoring rounds can feel punishing if you misjudge timing.
  • May feel dry to players who prefer thematic games.

Who it's for

Great for abstract-strategy fans aged 10+ who enjoy tight tactical planning, in groups of 2-4.
