About the game

First Train to Nuremberg puts players in charge of a 19th-century railway promoter racing to build profitable lines transporting passengers, beer, and mail across a growing rail network. Backed by local landowners' investments, you'll need influence to build over opposed land, contacts with major operators to acquire trains, and good relations with two local companies to link networks and later sell off unprofitable lines. This revised edition of Last Train to Wensleydale adds full support for two players, first-class passenger travel, and a bonus for the historic Nuremberg-Furth connection. It's a classic Martin Wallace design blending auction, route-building, and pick-up-and-deliver mechanics.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's team appreciates how this Martin Wallace design layers auction and negotiation on top of classic route-building and delivery mechanics. The influence and reputation systems add a social, negotiation-driven texture rarely seen in train games. Full two-player support is a welcome improvement over the original Last Train to Wensleydale. A rewarding pick for economic gamers who enjoy Wallace's dense, interlocking systems.

What we like

  • Deep, interlocking systems from acclaimed designer Martin Wallace.
  • Auction and negotiation mechanics add unique player interaction.
  • Full two-player support improves on the earlier edition.
  • Multiple resource types (influence, trains, relationships) enrich decisions.

Keep in mind

  • Long two-hour playtime requires a committed group.
  • High downtime, especially in larger player counts.
  • Dense rules and interlocking systems can overwhelm newcomers.
