About the game
Florenza casts players as heads of powerful Renaissance families competing to become Florence's premier patron of the arts. Using worker placement, players send laborers into workshops, including their rivals' districts, to gather the money and resources needed to commission real historical artworks in the Cathedral, civic buildings, and their own districts. Completing artworks earns prestige points, which convert into victory points at game's end, and every character, building, and artwork in the game is drawn from actual Renaissance history. It's a dense, historically grounded worker-placement game for players who enjoy long-term resource planning.
Hobbli's Notes
The historical grounding here is unusually deep, nearly every character and building is a real Renaissance figure or workshop, which gives the theme real weight beyond typical worker-placement window dressing. This is a heavy, deliberate game best suited to an experienced Euro-gaming group with time to spare.
What we like
- Rich Renaissance theme grounded in real historical figures and artworks.
- Deep worker-placement strategy with layered resource management.
- Satisfying long-term progression toward completed artworks.
- High replayability for dedicated Euro-game fans.
Keep in mind
- Long two-hour playtime and heavy complexity demand a full game night.
- Steep learning curve for players new to worker placement.
- Dry historical theme may not grab players seeking strong narrative flavor.
Who it's for
Best for experienced Euro strategy gamers aged 14 and up who enjoy worker placement, in groups of 2 to 5.
