About the game
Space Hulk: Death Angel is a fast, tense cooperative card game set in the Warhammer 40,000 universe, pitting 1-6 players' Space Marines against endless waves of Genestealers. Each round you secretly choose Support, Attack, or Move + Activate cards for your combat teams, then resolve them alongside the swarming aliens closing in. Simultaneous card selection keeps everyone involved at all times, with almost no downtime between turns. It's a quick, brutal, and thematic co-op built for repeat plays with different combat team combinations.
Hobbli's Notes
This is one of the best low-downtime co-ops we've reviewed, largely because everyone chooses actions at once rather than waiting through long individual turns. The Warhammer 40K flavor is thick, and the tension of watching the Genestealer swarm grow is genuinely gripping. It plays beautifully solo too, which is rare for a game this thematic.
What we like
- Simultaneous action selection means virtually no downtime.
- Strong Warhammer 40,000 theme and atmosphere.
- Scales smoothly from solo play up to six players.
- Quick setup and fast rounds encourage 'one more try'.
Keep in mind
- Dice-driven combat can create swingy, luck-heavy outcomes.
- Once you've learned the combat team combos, replay novelty can fade.
- Losses can feel abrupt, with little room for recovery mid-game.
Who it's for
Great for 1-6 players aged 13+ who want a quick, tense sci-fi co-op with minimal downtime, including strong solo play.
