About the game

Middle-earth is Iron Crown Enterprises' out-of-print collectible card game set in Tolkien's world, where players take on the role of Istari wizards like Gandalf and Saruman battling the forces of Sauron. Building decks split between resource cards and hazards, you recruit allies, wield legendary items like Glamdring and the Palantiri, and undertake quests ranging from rescuing prisoners to destroying the One Ring. Hazard cards summon the Nazgul, dragons, and other iconic threats to stop your opponent's progress. It's a deep, lore-rich CCG built for devoted Tolkien fans.

Hobbli's Notes

This is a real curiosity from CCG history, deeply thematic and packed with beloved Middle-earth lore, but long out of production with a market for singles that has dried up considerably. The deckbuilding depth appeals to serious collectible-card veterans, though newcomers may struggle to source a functional card pool today. If you already own a collection, it's a fascinating deep dive into Tolkien's world.

What we like

  • Extremely rich Tolkien theming with iconic characters and items.
  • Deckbuilding between resources and hazards adds meaningful strategic choices.
  • Variable player powers through different Istari wizards.
  • Rewards deep familiarity with Middle-earth lore.

Keep in mind

  • Long out of print, making it hard to acquire a full, balanced card pool.
  • High complexity and deckbuilding overhead can be a barrier for newcomers.
  • Playtime and balance can vary widely depending on decks used.

Who it's for

Best suited to Tolkien enthusiasts and CCG collectors aged 12+ who already have access to card pools and enjoy deckbuilding strategy.
