About the game

Anomia is a fast, hilarious real-time word game built around split-second recall. When two players reveal matching symbols, they must race to name an example from the category shown before their opponent beats them to it. Wild cards and cascading face-offs keep the tension high as the game speeds up. It's simple to learn but surprisingly difficult once the pressure is on, making for constant laughter around the table.

Hobbli's Notes

Anomia is a party game staple that never fails to get a room laughing at how badly everyone's brain freezes under pressure. Hobbli loves it as an icebreaker because it needs almost no setup and works for nearly any group. It's the kind of game that turns into inside jokes for weeks afterward.

What we like

  • Extremely quick to teach and start playing.
  • Generates constant laughter and quick-fire energy.
  • Great icebreaker for mixed groups.
  • Portable and easy to bring anywhere.

Keep in mind

  • Can be stressful for players who freeze under pressure.
  • Repeated categories may feel stale after many plays.
