About the game

Snake Oil challenges players to become wily Old West salesmen, combining two random word cards into a wacky two-word product and pitching it to that round's customer. The customer, a rotating role each round, decides which invented product they'd actually buy, awarding that round's customer card as a prize. With three to ten players and thirty-minute playtimes, it's built for big, silly groups who enjoy improvised pitches. Everyone gets a turn as customer, so the judging role and the pitching fun both rotate around the table. Whoever collects the most customer cards by the end wins.

Hobbli's Notes

Snake Oil is a reliable party-game crowd-pleaser: the joy comes entirely from hearing what ridiculous combinations your friends invent under pressure. It scales beautifully up to ten players, making it a great pick for bigger gatherings. The subjective judging can occasionally feel unfair, but that's part of the charm of a party game like this.

What we like

  • Hilarious creative product-pitching gameplay every round.
  • Scales up to ten players, great for larger gatherings.
  • Quick rounds with a rotating judge keep the game fresh.
  • Easy for non-gamers to jump into with no prior experience.

Keep in mind

  • Relies heavily on players being comfortable with improvisation.
  • Judge's subjective taste can feel unfair to some players.
  • Less engaging for shy or reserved players who avoid performing.

Who it's for

Great for larger groups of three to ten players, ages 10 and up, who enjoy improvisational, humor-driven party games.
