About the game
In Mountain Goats, 2-4 players race their goats up six different mountains, aiming to be the last one standing at each summit when scoring happens. Goats can share space on the way up, but only one goat can hold the top of each mountain: get knocked off and you start your climb over. Using dice rolling and set collection, the game is all about timing your ascent and reading your opponents' positions. It's a quick, light game that plays in about 20 minutes.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team enjoys Mountain Goats as a snappy filler with genuine tactical bite hidden beneath its cute animal theme. The push-your-luck timing of when to summit adds real tension for such a short game. It's an easy teach that still rewards paying attention to opponents. A great light option for family game nights or between heavier games.
What we like
- Very quick playtime of around 20 minutes.
- Simple rules make it accessible to younger players.
- Timing-based king-of-the-hill mechanic adds surprising depth.
- Charming animal theme appeals to families.
Keep in mind
- Light strategic depth may not satisfy serious gamers.
- Dice-based movement introduces luck into positioning.
- Can feel repetitive over many plays.
Who it's for
