About the game

Campaign Manager 2008 puts two players in charge of rival presidential campaigns during the historic 2008 election, battling for votes across twenty contested swing states. Using a card-driven system, you'll build a unique deck of Campaign Strategy cards to define key issues, sway demographics, and outmaneuver your opponent state by state. Negative campaigning is possible but risky, forcing your rival to roll dice that could backfire in your favor. The first campaign manager to secure 270 electoral votes wins the race to the White House.

Hobbli's Notes

This is a sharp, focused two-player card-driven game that rewards tight tactical play more than any political know-how. The swing-state structure keeps both players engaged throughout, since a single well-timed card can flip a state's momentum. It won't appeal to everyone given the real-world political theme, but as a lean CDG duel it delivers genuine tension in a manageable playtime.

What we like

  • Tight card-driven decisions reward tactical foresight.
  • Focused two-player format creates a genuine head-to-head duel.
  • Swing-state structure keeps every state in play meaningful.
  • Historical 2008 election theme offers an accessible entry into political strategy games.

Keep in mind

  • Strictly a two-player experience with no scaling for groups.
  • Real-world political theme may not appeal to all players.
  • Negative campaigning's dice-roll risk adds a layer of luck to an otherwise strategic game.

Who it's for

Best for two players aged 13 and up who enjoy card-driven strategy games, political history, or head-to-head dueling games in the vein of Twilight Struggle.
