About the game
Meuterer is a role-selection card game in which players are crewmembers aboard a merchant ship trying to sell their goods at the right ports. Only the captain decides where the ship sails, so a discontented crewmember can choose to become the mutineer, trying to seize control and redirect the voyage: with allies on each side determining who ultimately wins the conflict. Selling more goods than rivals or reaching a favorable destination earns points, and successful mutineers and their allies score too. It's a tight, clever game of hidden roles and shifting alliances on the high seas.
Hobbli's Notes
An underrated hidden-role design with a light pirate theme: the tension of deciding whether to back the captain or the mutineer each round makes for surprisingly sharp decision-making in a compact package.
What we like
- Clever hidden-role and alliance mechanic creates constant tension.
- Compact one-hour playtime with meaningful decisions each round.
- Modular board and card drafting add strategic variety.
- Light pirate theme gives the mechanics an engaging framework.
Keep in mind
- Fixed to 3-4 players limits its use for larger or smaller groups.
- Older, less widely available title can be harder to find.
- Mechanics may feel dated compared to more modern hidden-role designs.
Who it's for
Medium-weight gamers who enjoy hidden roles and negotiation, 3 to 4 players.
