About the game
Tribune: Primus Inter Pares casts players as ambitious patrician families in ancient Rome vying to become tribune. Through worker placement, players position followers on the board to gather cards, complete objectives, or attempt to seize control of political factions. Controlling a faction requires playing a matching set of cards, and rival players can stage takeovers with stronger sets at any time. Victory comes from meeting objective requirements or, in the point-value variant, accumulating the most faction markers by game's end.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editorial team appreciates how Tribune blends worker placement with set collection in a way that keeps factions constantly contested throughout the game. Designer Karl-Heinz Schmiel, known for the acclaimed Die Macher, brings a similarly political flavor to ancient Rome here. The threat of a faction takeover keeps every round tense, even when it isn't your turn. It's a somewhat overlooked title in the worker-placement genre that we think deserves more attention, though we're flagging it for review given its niche standing.
