About the game

Loot is a light Reiner Knizia card game about pirates raiding trading ships for gold. Players send trading ships on voyages that must survive a round of attacks from opposing pirate ships, using their own pirates to defend their traders or plunder others' cargo. The deck includes captains and an admiral who tip the balance of these ship battles, and the game ends once the draw deck runs out. Whoever has amassed the most gold coins at that point wins, and the game flexes from 2 up to 8 players with team play.

Hobbli's Notes

This is one of Knizia's simpler pirate-themed designs, a light card-conflict game rather than a deep strategy title, but its flexible player count and team option make it a handy filler for a mixed group. It won't be the star of the night, but it's an easy, breezy addition to the rotation.

What we like

  • Simple pirate-themed card conflict that's easy for families to pick up.
  • Quick playtime around 20 minutes.
  • Flexible player count from 2 to 8, including team play.
  • Classic Knizia card-conflict design with clean, tight rules.

Keep in mind

  • Lighter strategic depth compared to Knizia's more acclaimed titles.
  • Luck of the draw plays a significant role in outcomes.
  • Can feel repetitive across many consecutive plays.

Who it's for
