About the game
Pickomino is Reiner Knizia's fast-paced push-your-luck dice game for 2-7 players, where players try to grab worm tiles for their hungry chickens. On each turn, players roll dice, setting aside matching values, hoping to reach the number on a tile before busting. Bust, and you flip your top tile face-down, losing it forever; succeed, and you may even steal a rival's tile right off their stack. It's simple to teach, endlessly replayable, and packed with groans and cheers.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team calls Pickomino a modern push-your-luck classic; it plays in about 20 minutes but delivers huge swings of excitement for a wide range of ages. The choice of when to stop rolling is genuinely tense despite the minimal rules overhead. It's a fantastic filler and a great gateway game for introducing younger players to risk management.
What we like
- Extremely quick to teach and play.
- Push-your-luck tension keeps every turn exciting.
- Scales well from 2 up to 7 players.
- Stealing tiles from opponents adds a fun take-that element.
Keep in mind
- Heavy luck factor means skill only partially determines the winner.
- Can create pile-on dynamics against a leader.
Who it's for
Great for families and mixed-age groups (8+) of up to 7 players looking for a quick, luck-driven game.
