About the game

Finspan invites players to become marine researchers cataloguing aquatic life across the Sunlight, Twilight, and Midnight Zones of the ocean. Over four weeks of play, players collect fish cards, discover eggs, hatch young, and build schools, engine-building their tableau for end-game scoring. Solo play is supported, and the game leans into an educational nature focus. Points come from fish, eggs, young, schools, and special achievements.

Hobbli's Notes

Finspan looks like a strong entry in the tableau-building engine game space, translating that addictive card-collecting loop into an oceanic theme. Hobbli's team is excited to see how the "diving deeper" resource escalation plays out at the table, though as a brand-new 2025 release we haven't logged enough plays to fully vouch for its long-term replayability.

What we like

  • Strong solo mode for solitaire play.
  • Rich engine-building with escalating rewards.
  • Educational nature theme with real aquatic species.
  • Scales well from 1 to 5 players.

Keep in mind

  • As a brand-new release, long-term replay value is unproven.
  • Card-driven engine building may feel familiar to fans of similar tableau games.
  • Downtime can increase with more players.

Who it's for

Well suited to 1-5 players aged 10+ who enjoy engine-building card games, nature themes, and solo-friendly euro games.
