About the game
Apiary imagines a distant future where advanced honeybee societies, the Mellifera, have inherited a post-human world. Each of twenty unique factions starts with a hive, a handful of resources, and worker bees, then races to explore planets, gather resources, research technologies, and craft carvings before the Dearth forces workers into hibernation. A worker-placement engine with variable player powers rewards adapting your strategy to your faction's strengths across a single year's Flow. It supports solo play and offers strong asymmetric replayability.
Hobbli's Notes
A charming, clever worker-placement game with genuinely distinct factions that change how each game feels. The looming Dearth deadline creates a satisfying rhythm of urgency without ever feeling punishing.
What we like
- Twenty unique factions provide strong asymmetric replayability.
- Solo mode is well developed for a multiplayer-focused design.
- Charming, distinctive sci-fi bee theme.
- Satisfying rhythm created by the Dearth's approaching deadline.
Keep in mind
- Learning all faction abilities takes time before strategy clicks.
- Moderate complexity may not suit very casual players.
- Some factions may feel stronger than others at first.
Who it's for
Great for euro-gamers aged 14+ who enjoy worker placement with asymmetric powers; supports solo play and works well with 2-4 players.
