About the game

Altered is a trading card game set on a reshaped Earth transformed by a mysterious event called the Confluence, where players choose a faction and lead expeditions through an ever-changing world. Built by Régis Bonnessée, founder of Libellud (the studio behind Dixit, Mysterium, and Dice Forge), the game pairs a richly illustrated visual style with card-play conflict resolution and deck/bag-building mechanisms. Altered is designed with a 'phygital' experience in mind, blending physical cards with digital features for players, tournament organizers, and store owners alike. Games run around 40 minutes for two to four players, with a rarity system and evolving lore designed to support both casual play and competitive tournaments.

Hobbli's Notes

Altered arrived with real buzz thanks to its pedigree and gorgeous, Dixit-inspired art direction, and it's carved out a genuine niche in the crowded TCG space. The phygital integration is a clever modern touch that sets it apart from older card games in the genre. It's still a collectible game at heart, so newcomers should go in aware of the ongoing cost of chasing cards and staying current with the evolving card pool.

What we like

  • Rich lore and striking, distinctive artwork.
  • Innovative phygital experience blending physical and digital play.
  • Deck/bag-building adds depth to the TCG format.
  • Strong competitive and tournament support.
  • Designed by the acclaimed founder of Libellud.

Keep in mind

  • Collectible rarity model means costs can add up over time.
  • Competitive TCG meta may not suit casual players.
  • Still a fairly new game with an evolving card pool and rules.

Who it's for

Great for TCG collectors and competitive card game players aged 12 and up, playing in groups of two to four.
