About the game

Match of the Century recreates the legendary 1972 World Chess Championship showdown between Bobby Fischer and Boris Spassky as a tense two-player card duel. Each match lasts only a few quick turns, but every card played from your asymmetrical deck manipulates your opponent's mental endurance and the outcome of the round. You must weigh whether to hold onto an advantage or spend it to trigger a card's special effect, creating constant tension between patience and aggression. It's a compact, thematic head-to-head game built around a real slice of Cold War history.

Hobbli's Notes

Paolo Mori has a knack for tight two-player design, and this historical showdown captures real psychological tension in a small box. The asymmetric decks keep both sides feeling distinct, and matches move fast enough to want an immediate rematch. A great option for couples or duos looking for something with bite but not a huge time investment.

What we like

  • Quick rounds keep tension high without dragging on.
  • Asymmetric decks give each side a distinct playstyle.
  • Compact and easy to bring along for a two-player evening.

Keep in mind
