About the game

In Forest Shuffle, players race to gather valuable trees and attract the animals, plants, and mushrooms that call them home, building a thriving woodland ecosystem card by card. Each turn you either draw cards from the deck or clearing, or spend resources to plant a tree or add a dweller into your growing forest. The clever twist is that dweller cards are split in half, so clever layering and splaying let you combine creatures in ways that reward planning ahead. When the third of three hidden winter cards appears, the game ends and players tally points from their assembled habitats.

Hobbli's Notes

Forest Shuffle stands out for how tactile and satisfying its card layering feels at the table, turning a fairly light hand-management game into something visually striking. It hits a lovely sweet spot for players who love nature-themed games but don't want the heavier commitment of something like Wingspan's full engine. The set collection puzzle is engaging without becoming fiddly, and the FSC-certified, plastic-free production adds a nice values-aligned touch for eco-conscious buyers.

What we like

  • The layered card art creates a genuinely beautiful tableau as your forest grows.
  • The hand-management and drafting decisions stay engaging without heavy rules overhead.
  • It teaches quickly, making it approachable for newer gamers.
  • The set collection scoring rewards multiple viable strategies.

Keep in mind

  • Games can drift toward multiplayer solitaire at higher player counts.
  • Some of the card text and icons are small and can be hard to parse at a glance.
  • Luck of the draw can limit access to key tree or dweller cards.

Who it's for

Great for families and casual gamers aged 10 and up who enjoy nature themes and light-to-medium strategy in groups of 2-5.
