About the game
Reforest is a medium-complexity card game for one to four players who compete to grow the healthiest forest ecosystem by building a tableau of synergistic plant cards. On a turn, players either gather cards from the deck and nursery or play a plant into their forest at low, middle, or high elevation, paying costs by discarding other plants as nutrients. Taller plants can be grown over shorter pioneer species at reduced cost, encouraging players to plan their forest's vertical layering carefully. At the end of each round, animal visitor cards reward the forest that best matches their habitat needs, and the game ends once all visitors have found a home.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team enjoys the calm, nature-forward theme paired with a genuinely engaging light engine-building puzzle. The elevation-based tableau layout is a nice twist on typical card-tableau games, giving spatial planning real weight. As a newer print-and-play-style release, it hasn't built a long track record yet, but the core design shows real promise for fans of nature-themed card games.
What we like
- Elevation-based tableau adds a fresh spatial twist to card-tableau design.
- Strong solo mode makes it flexible for a single player.
- Relaxing nature theme with satisfying engine-building payoff.
- Sixty-minute playtime keeps sessions manageable.
Keep in mind
- As a 2024 release, it has a limited track record and community feedback.
- Print-and-play-style components may not match hobby-game production quality.
- Tableau elevation constraints can feel fiddly for new players.
Who it's for
Fans of tableau-building card games and nature themes; works well solo or with up to four players, casual-to-mid gamers.
