About the game

Nova Roma places you at the head of a noble Roman house tasked with helping build Emperor Constantine's new capital, Nova Roma. Deploying family members and retainers, you construct buildings, dominate sea trade routes, secure resources, race chariots in the hippodrome, and hire specialists to further your house's agenda. Through worker placement, area majority, and pattern-building mechanics, you compete to impress the Emperor by game's end, or even win early through decisive achievements. It's a richly thematic ancient Roman city-building Euro.

Hobbli's Notes

Nova Roma's combination of worker placement with area majority and hippodrome racing gives it a distinctive multi-track path to victory that keeps every game feeling different. The historical framing around Constantine's founding of the city adds genuine flavor to the mechanisms rather than feeling tacked on. As a fairly new, mid-heavy release, we're still gathering long-term impressions on how well the various scoring paths balance against each other.

What we like

  • Multiple distinct paths to victory, from building to racing to trade.
  • Strong historical theme tied closely to the founding of Nova Roma.
  • Worker placement and area majority mechanics combine for deep strategy.
  • Solo mode adds flexibility for single-player sessions.

Keep in mind

  • Multiple simultaneous scoring paths can feel overwhelming for newer Euro players.
  • As a newer release, long-term replay balance is still being assessed.

Who it's for

Great for 1-4 players aged 14+ who enjoy meaty worker-placement Euros with strong historical theming.
