About the game

Fliptown is a flip-and-write game where 1-4 players explore a wild west town by flipping cards from a standard poker deck each turn. One card sets which region you visit, another determines the site you circle on your dry-erase map, and a third builds toward a five-card poker hand resolved at round's end. Each of the four regions offers a different puzzle, from gathering gold to recruiting gear, and bounty cards give competitive players extra goals to chase. A roster of solo-friendly 'cowbot' opponents and fourteen unique characters add plenty of variety to repeated plays.

Hobbli's Notes

Fliptown layers a clever poker-hand subgame on top of a solid flip-and-write framework, and the four-region puzzle gives it more texture than many games in the genre. It's especially strong solo thanks to its cast of AI opponents. As a newer, smaller release, we haven't seen it played across a huge range of groups yet, so consider this take a confident but early read.

What we like

  • Strong, varied solo mode with multiple AI opponent personalities.
  • Simultaneous play across all regions keeps downtime low.
  • Poker-hand subgame adds an unusual extra layer of strategy.
  • Character variety and bounty cards boost replayability.

Keep in mind

  • Relies on dry-erase components that wear down with heavy use.
  • The poker hand mechanic may feel like a secondary afterthought to some players.
  • As a newer indie release, fewer plays exist to confirm long-term replay value.

Who it's for

Good for 1-4 players aged 12+ who enjoy flip-and-write puzzles with a light poker twist; strong solo option.
