About the game
Last Light is a fast-paced 4X game set at the heat death of the universe, where asymmetric alien factions race to gather the last light from a rotating white dwarf star. Every round, players secretly select an action card, then resolve their moves simultaneously - exploring planets, mining resources, researching technology, and commanding fleets. A striking 3D planet board and rotating center piece give the game a distinctive tabletop presence. Supporting 2 to 4 players (with a solo mode) in about 75 minutes, it condenses traditional 4X scope into a much shorter session. The first faction to gather 20 light wins.
Hobbli's Notes
Last Light impresses with how much 4X scope it packs into a relatively short playtime, and the simultaneous action selection keeps everyone involved rather than waiting through long turns. The 3D board is a real showpiece and adds to the sense of racing against a dying universe. As a newer, less established title, we'd recommend going in with realistic expectations about community support and long-term availability. Overall it's a bold, visually striking take on the genre.
What we like
- Simultaneous action selection keeps all players engaged at once.
- Striking 3D planets and rotating board offer real table presence.
- Asymmetric alien factions add meaningful replay variety.
- Delivers 4X scope in a comparatively fast 75-minute session.
Keep in mind
- Simultaneous resolution can confuse players new to the genre.
- Racing to a fixed light total can end games somewhat abruptly.
- Niche 4X space theme with a fairly small community track record.
Who it's for
Appeals to strategy and sci-fi fans (ages 14+) who want a condensed 4X experience with simultaneous turns and asymmetric factions.
