About the game

Trek 12: Himalaya is a roll-and-write alpinism game where players combine the results of two dice using addition, subtraction, multiplication, or by keeping the higher or lower value, then place that number on their sheet. Starting from the first placed number, every new number must go in a space adjacent to one already filled, encouraging players to build chains of consecutive numbers and clusters of matching numbers. Across 19 rolls, players also chase bonus elements, while numbers left outside a chain or area cost points at the end. Three sheet pads offer progressively difficult versions of the climb.

Hobbli's Notes

Designed by Bruno Cathala, Trek 12 packs clever push-your-luck arithmetic into the roll-and-write format, with the adjacency rule forcing real spatial planning rather than just filling in boxes. The escalating difficulty pads give it good longevity for solo players who want to keep challenging themselves. It's light and portable, making it an easy pick for downtime moments, though the shared dice rolls mean there's little direct interaction between players.

What we like

  • Simple dice-combination rules hide real spatial puzzle depth.
  • Scales from solo play to large groups since everyone plays simultaneously.
  • Three difficulty levels give it strong long-term replay value.
  • Compact and portable, ideal for travel or downtime.
  • Quick 30-minute playtime fits easily into any game night.

Keep in mind

  • Minimal direct player interaction since everyone plays their own sheet.
  • Shared dice rolls mean luck plays a real role in outcomes.
  • Repeated plays on the same difficulty pad can feel familiar over time.
