About the game
Bites is a light, fast-playing reimplementation of the acclaimed Big Points, now themed around ants collecting food along a shared trail. Players move colored ants toward matching food tokens, but the value of each food item depends on how far along the trail it is claimed and how other players' choices unfold. Variable rule cards tweak scoring each game, keeping the shared-incentive puzzle fresh every time you play. With no direct conflict but plenty of interactive tension, it's a clever 20-minute game of shifting priorities.
Hobbli's Notes
Bites nails that rare balance of being simple to teach yet mentally engaging thanks to its ever-shifting shared incentives -- you're never quite sure if helping an ant along will pay off for you or your opponent. The variable rule cards do a great job keeping repeat plays fresh without adding real complexity. A fantastic filler for groups who like light, interactive games with a surprising amount of push-and-pull.
What we like
- Fast 20-minute playtime with meaningful shared-incentive decisions.
- Variable rule cards keep every game fresh and different.
- No direct conflict makes it approachable for a wide range of players.
- Simple four-page rulebook makes it easy to teach.
Keep in mind
- Light complexity may not satisfy players seeking deep strategy.
- Shared-incentive scoring can feel abstract until players grasp the system.
Who it's for
Great for families and casual groups of 2-5 players, ages 12 and up (though younger players may enjoy it too), looking for a quick, interactive filler game.
