About the game
Patchwork Doodle takes the beloved two-player tile-laying game Patchwork and reimagines it as a roll-and-write for up to six players. Each player fills in their own 9x9 grid, drawing unique polyomino shapes revealed by a die-driven rabbit moving around a circle of cards. Four special one-time actions - like splitting a shape or filling a single square - give you clever ways to optimize your grid and minimize wasted space. Since you lose points for every uncovered square, packing your patchwork as tightly as possible is the name of the game.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's team likes how well Patchwork Doodle captures the spatial puzzle of the original Patchwork while opening it up to a full table of players. It's a satisfying, quick-playing roll-and-write that rewards careful shape planning without demanding much rules overhead.
What we like
- Captures Patchwork's spatial puzzle in a fast roll-and-write format.
- Special one-time actions add clever tactical choices each round.
- Scales easily up to six players with simultaneous play.
- Short 20-minute playtime with minimal downtime.
Keep in mind
- Repeated plays can feel similar once optimal shape strategies are learned.
- Roll-and-write format lacks the tactile appeal of Patchwork's physical pieces.
Who it's for
Great for families and puzzle fans aged 8+ who enjoy quick spatial roll-and-write games for up to six players.
