About the game

18Chesapeake is an entry in the 18xx series of railway investment games, set in the Chesapeake region and extending west into Ohio and the West Virginia Coalfields. Two to six players act as investors, buying private and minor companies before moving into public railroad companies controlled by their largest shareholder. Public companies build track and run trains to generate revenue, which can be paid as dividends or reinvested: creating tension between a company president's goals and minority shareholders' interests. It's a moderate-length 18xx title, typically running around 2.5 to 3.5 hours.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's team appreciates 18Chesapeake as a relatively approachable entry point into the notoriously deep 18xx genre, with a moderate playtime compared to some of its sprawling siblings. The stock-holding and route-building interplay creates real economic tension between company presidents and shareholders. It's still a heavy, demanding game best suited to experienced euro and economic-game fans. A solid choice for groups ready to dive into train-share investment gaming.

Keep in mind
