About the game

Zendo is a game of inductive logic in which one player, the Moderator, secretly devises a rule governing arrangements of colorful pyramid pieces. The other players build and study configurations, marked as following or breaking the rule, to deduce what it is. The first to correctly state the rule wins, and an optional card system helps new Moderators create rules without inventing their own. Inspired by the classic game Eleusis, Zendo turns pure reasoning into an engaging tabletop puzzle.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli finds Zendo endlessly fascinating for logic-minded players: no two games are alike since the rules are invented at the table. It rewards careful, patient thinking more than most games and works surprisingly well for mixed-age groups who enjoy puzzles.

What we like

  • Unique inductive-reasoning gameplay unlike most deduction games.
  • Endlessly replayable since rules are invented fresh each game.
  • Scalable difficulty suits both new and experienced logic players.
  • Compact, colorful components are appealing at the table.

Keep in mind

  • Requires a thoughtful Moderator to keep the game fun and fair.
  • Can move slowly while players study configurations.
  • Abstract, ruleless theme may not appeal to narrative-focused gamers.

Who it's for

Great for logic and puzzle enthusiasts aged 8+, especially small groups who enjoy inductive reasoning and are willing to have a patient rule-maker at the table.
