About the game

Seas of Strife is a nautical trick-taking game for three to six players who want to avoid taking tricks, but the twist is that suit can shift mid-trick when a player can't follow the lead color. Once all cards are played, whichever color appeared most often determines the winner, with ties broken by the highest card. Players compete over several rounds until someone hits the target number of tricks captured, and the lowest total wins. It's a light, quick nautical spin on trick-taking.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editors enjoy how the shifting-suit mechanic keeps this trick-taking game surprising even for veterans of the genre. It's light enough to bring to a casual table but has enough bite to reward careful card counting. The nautical theme and art give it nice table presence. A solid pick when you want trick-taking with a fresh twist.

What we like

  • Clever suit-shifting twist on classic trick-taking.
  • Quick to teach and quick to play.
  • Scales well from three all the way to six players.
  • Charming nautical theme and artwork.

Keep in mind

  • Lighter strategic depth than hobby-focused trick-taking games.
  • The avoid-tricks scoring can confuse newcomers at first.
  • Downtime increases somewhat with a larger player count.

Who it's for

Good for families and casual groups of three to six who enjoy light trick-taking card games.
