About the game
The Oracle of Delphi sends your ship across a variable hex-tile sea in service of twelve legendary tasks set by Zeus, from delivering offerings to slaying monsters. Each turn you roll three colored 'oracle dice' that determine which of three actions you can take, with clever ways to manipulate fate through gods' favor and companions. Stefan Feld's design blends dice-driven action selection with pick-up-and-deliver logistics and a satisfying race to complete objectives first. The modular board and varied ship abilities keep every playthrough distinct.
Hobbli's Notes
The Oracle of Delphi is vintage Stefan Feld: a dice-driven engine with just enough mitigation to feel fair, wrapped in a satisfying nautical adventure theme. Hobbli's team enjoys how the race to complete the twelve tasks creates constant tension without ever feeling mean-spirited toward opponents. It's a great pick for fans of Feld's other work looking for something slightly lighter and more thematic than his heavier Eurogames.
What we like
- Clever dice-as-action-selection mechanism from a top designer.
- Modular board ensures high replayability.
- Good balance of luck mitigation and strategic planning.
- Race-to-complete-objectives structure keeps tension high.
Keep in mind
- Dice rolling may frustrate players who dislike variance.
- Can suffer downtime with four players.
- Thematic elements are somewhat abstracted from the mythology.
Who it's for
