About the game

My Favourite Things is a trick-taking party game where the strength of your cards depends entirely on your friends. Before playing, each person writes down their five favorite (and one least favorite) things in a chosen category on cards, which then become the deck. During tricks, a card's value is determined by how highly its owner ranked that item, with the added twist that the lowest rank can beat the highest under special conditions. Because nobody knows a card's true strength until it's revealed, every trick sparks conversation, laughter, and surprising insight into your fellow players. It turns a simple trick-taking format into a genuinely personal, story-driven party experience.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's editorial team finds this one of the more charming novelties in the trick-taking space -- it repurposes a familiar mechanism to create real conversation and connection rather than pure competition. It shines with a group of friends who already know (or want to learn) each other's quirks and preferences. As a trick-taking game it's fairly simple, so strategy-focused players may find the actual play a bit thin. It's best treated as a social icebreaker with light game mechanics attached, rather than a serious card game.

What we like

  • Unique personalization mechanic sparks genuine conversation and laughter.
  • Simple trick-taking rules make it very easy to teach.
  • Works well as an icebreaker for groups getting to know each other.
  • Quick 30-minute playtime fits easily into any game night.

Keep in mind

  • Strategic depth is limited compared to traditional trick-taking games.
  • Works best with players who are comfortable sharing personal preferences.
  • Card 'strength' being subjective can feel arbitrary to competitive players.

Who it's for

Ideal for groups of friends aged 8 and up who enjoy silly, personal party games, best with three to six players who know each other well.
