About the game

The Builders: Antiquity is a standalone card game where you play a foreman constructing famous monuments of the ancient world, from the Pyramids to the Parthenon. Hire workers, purchase slaves and tools, and take out loans to gather the carpentry, masonry, architecture, and painting skills each building demands. Careful action management and drafting decide who becomes the greatest builder of the age. It plays quickly and rewards efficient resource planning over direct conflict.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli's team enjoys how this stripped-down card game captures the tension of the original Builders: Middle Ages in a smaller, quicker package. The loan and slave mechanics add a nice risk/reward layer without overcomplicating the ruleset. It's a satisfying light-to-mid euro that rewards planning your worker allocation ahead of time. A good pick when you want engine-building flavor without the long playtime.

What we like

  • Quick 30-minute playtime keeps the game moving.
  • Drafting and resource management create meaningful decisions each turn.
  • The loan and slave-labor mechanics add interesting risk/reward tension.
  • Compact card-only format is easy to bring to the table.

Keep in mind

  • Some downtime between turns as opponents plan their builds.
  • Thematic elements (slavery) may not suit all audiences.
  • Limited player interaction beyond competing for the same resources.
