About the game
In Pandemic: Contagion, the tables are turned on the classic cooperative disease-fighting formula: each player controls a competing disease racing to wipe out humanity first. Using contagion cards, city cards, and disease cubes, you'll draw resources, mutate your disease's incubation, transmission, and resistance traits, and spread infection across a shifting map of cities. Mid-game scoring rounds and unpredictable event and WHO cards keep every player's fortunes in flux. It's a quick, darkly comic spin on the beloved Pandemic series for 2-5 players.
Hobbli's Notes
Hobbli's editorial team enjoys how Contagion flips the Pandemic formula into a light, competitive card game rather than another cooperative retread. The push-and-pull of building up your disease's stats while racing the clock creates snappy 30-minute sessions. It won't scratch the same itch as the original Pandemic's tension, but as a quick filler with series pedigree it delivers solid, silly fun. Some players may find the swingy scoring a bit random for their tastes.
What we like
- Offers a fresh, competitive twist on the well-loved Pandemic series.
- Fast-playing at around 30 minutes, making it easy to fit into a game night.
- Dark comedic theme of playing as a disease adds novelty and humor.
- Simple card-drawing and cube-spreading actions keep rules overhead low.
Keep in mind
- Random card draws can make outcomes feel more luck-driven than strategic.
- Thematic humor about a pandemic may not land well with every group.
- Limited long-term strategic depth compared to other games in the series.
