About the game

Medieval Academy casts players as squires training to become knights, competing across categories like Jousts, Tournaments, Quests, Education, Charity, and Gallantry to earn Chivalry Points. Over six turns, players draft cards to move discs up various training tracks, timing their plays carefully to maximize their standing. Only one squire will be knighted by King Arthur at the end. It's a light, family-plus weight card-drafting game with a playful medieval flavor.

Hobbli's Notes

Hobbli finds the whimsical knight-school theme charming, and the drafting-plus-track-climbing structure offers just enough decision-making for a family-plus crowd. It won't satisfy players craving deep strategy, but it's a solid pick for groups wanting something a step up from pure family games. We're a touch less certain on direct comparisons given how under-the-radar this title is.

What we like

  • Whimsical medieval knight-training theme with charming flavor text.
  • Card drafting rewards planning across multiple training tracks.
  • Simultaneous action selection keeps downtime moderate.
  • Accessible family-plus weight suitable for mixed groups.

Keep in mind

  • Six-turn structure can feel short for players wanting a deeper arc.
  • Drafting can be swingy depending on what's available each round.
  • Theme is light rather than deeply immersive.

Who it's for

Good for families and casual groups of 2-5, ages 8+, wanting a light-to-medium card-drafting game.
