About the game
Skull King is a pirate-themed trick-taking game where you must predict exactly how many tricks you'll win each round: no more, no less. Special cards like Mermaids, Pirates, and the fearsome Skull King himself add a rock-paper-scissors twist to the usual trick-taking rules. Bidding happens simultaneously, so rounds are often over- or under-bid, adding delicious chaos to the tension. It's a fast, exciting trick-taker that supports large groups.
Hobbli's Notes
Skull King injects wonderful theatricality into trick-taking: the special pirate cards create moments of triumph and heartbreak in equal measure. It scales beautifully from small groups to a full table of eight, making it one of our favorite go-to card games for mixed groups.
