About the game

Istanbul sends players hustling through the grand bazaar with a merchant and four assistants, moving through 16 locations to gather goods, earn money, and ultimately collect rubies. The clever hook is that you must leave an assistant behind to perform an action, meaning you'll need to plan your route carefully to avoid running out of helpers. Along the way you can upgrade your wheelbarrow capacity, gain useful special abilities, and interact with other merchants for bonus actions. First to fill your wheelbarrow with five rubies wins, making for a tense race to the finish.

Hobbli's Notes

Istanbul's assistant-management puzzle is a genuinely clever twist on movement and worker placement: deciding when to leave a helper behind versus circle back to retrieve them creates constant tactical tension. The variable modular board layout keeps repeated plays feeling fresh, and the moderate 60-minute playtime hits a nice sweet spot for a mid-weight strategy game. Some downtime can occur as you watch opponents plan complex routes.
